About
Why this site exists
Most "best places to retire" content is written to sell you something — a property tour, a relocation package, an affiliate insurance policy. RetireAtlas is written to answer one question honestly: where would retirement actually work for you?
What we do differently
Every destination on this site gets the same seven-factor review — cost, healthcare, safety, climate, English friendliness, retiree community, and flight connectivity — and a single letter grade, assigned the way a guidebook rates a hotel. A place with a fatal flaw for most retirees doesn't get to average its way to a good score.
We publish the numbers that decisions actually turn on: what a couple really spends per month, exactly what income the retirement visa requires, and how far you are from a hospital that can handle a heart attack. And we state the trade-offs plainly, because every destination has them — the ones that hide theirs are the ones to worry about.
How we keep it honest
RetireAtlas is independent. We don't sell relocation services, we don't run property tours, and no destination pays for placement or a better grade. Every figure carries a review date, and the methodology page explains exactly how grades are assigned.
We are a guide, not an advisor: nothing here is legal, tax, or financial advice, and visa rules change without notice. Always verify current requirements with the relevant embassy or immigration authority — and if a figure on this site looks out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.
